Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Raffi different from other dog treats?

Raffi cookies are made with 10 human grade ingredients and absolutely nothing artificial. Unlike most dog treats, we provide a complete nutrition panel showing exactly what's in every cookie. Our treats are specifically designed for our busy lives. They're odour free, won't leave residue in your handbag, and taste amazing without relying on artificial flavors.

Why don't Raffi cookies smell like other dog treats?

Most commercial dog treats use meat meals, artificial flavors, and preservatives that create strong odours. Raffi cookies are made from wholesome ingredients like peanut butter, banana, and pumpkin that smell pleasant to both dogs and humans. This makes them perfect for café visits, car trips, or anywhere you need a wholesome treat.

Are Raffi cookies really human grade?

Yes! Every ingredient meets human food safety standards, but our ingredient combinations are designed specifically for dogs, not humans. While you technically could eat ingredients this good, we're legally required to say "PET FOOD ONLY", and honestly, your dog's opinion on peanut butter treats is way more reliable! We prefer to let the real food experts (dogs) do the quality control.

How long do Raffi cookies stay fresh?

Our cookies stay fresh for 6 - 8 months in the original sealed packaging thanks to our unique natural preservation process. Once opened, reseal the packet or store them in an airtight container and they'll maintain freshness for several months without refrigeration.  We are confident your pup won’t ever let them make it to a container!

Why do you show a complete nutrition panel when other brands don't?

Here's something most dog owners don't realise: there's no legal requirement for pet treat manufacturers to disclose sugar and salt content in Australia.

While dog food must show basic protein and fat levels, treat manufacturers can choose not to reveal their sugar and salt content. This lack of transparency makes it impossible for you to make informed comparisons when choosing treats for your dog.

We believe that's not good enough. If you wouldn't buy human food without knowing the sugar content, why should your dog's treats be any different? That's why we voluntarily provide a complete nutrition panel showing everything, including our naturally low sugar (0.7g per serving) and minimal sodium (3mg per serving) content.  Both our sugar and salt content are naturally occurring in the ingredients and NOT added.

When you see brands that don't show their complete nutrition breakdown, you can ask yourself: if their numbers were as good as ours, wouldn't they want to show them off too? We're proud to be transparent because we have nothing to hide, and everything to share.

Are Raffi cookies suitable for dogs with allergies?

Raffi cookies contain no wheat and are made with naturally gluten free ingredients and contain no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, no added salt and no added sugar. However, they do contain peanuts and eggs. Always check with your vet if your dog has specific allergies. Our simple, transparent ingredient list makes it easy to identify any ingredients your dog should avoid.

What does "human grade" actually mean?

Human-grade means every ingredient meets the same safety and quality standards as food for people. This includes sourcing, processing, handling, and storage standards. It's much higher than typical pet food grade ingredients, which can include by products and lower quality components not suitable for human consumption.

Why don't you use preservatives?

We use natural preservation methods instead of artificial chemicals. Our unique combination of ingredients creates natural antimicrobial properties, and our unique baking and drying process removes moisture that bacteria need to grow. This gives us excellent shelf life without any artificial preservatives like BHA, BHT, or sodium benzoate.

Can puppies eat Raffi cookies?

Yes! Raffi cookies are suitable for puppies from 8 weeks old once they're comfortably eating solid food. The small size makes them perfect for training treats, and our natural ingredients are gentle on developing digestive systems. However, treats should only make up 10% of your puppy's daily calories, so adjust their regular food accordingly. Always supervise young puppies with any treats and consult your vet for specific dietary advice.

How many cookies should I give my dog?

Follow the 10% rule – treats should be no more than 10% of your dog's daily calories. For most dogs. You should consult your vet for specific dietary advice.

How should I store opened packages?

Store opened packages in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. No refrigeration needed! Properly stored cookies will stay fresh and crunchy for months. The resealable packaging helps maintain freshness if you don't transfer to another container.

Are these suitable for training?

Perfect for training! The large cookies can be broken into smaller pieces for multiple rewards, or choose our Raffi Bites which are specifically sized for training sessions and smaller pups. Dogs love the taste, and the pleasant smell won't overwhelm indoor training sessions.

What if my dog has never had treats before?

Start slowly! Give just a small piece initially to ensure your dog tolerates the new food well. Some dogs need time to develop a taste for new treats. The natural peanut butter flavor is usually very appealing to dogs, but every dog is different.

Why don't you offer "free" shipping?

Like our ingredient transparency, our shipping costs are also transparent. 'Free' shipping isn't actually free, we have to pay shipping costs regardless of your order quantity. Instead of inflating our prices to cover 'free' shipping, we keep it simple and charge a flat rate of $10 per order.

We apply the same philosophy to our shipping as we do to our treats: complete transparency, honest pricing, and no hidden costs or ingredients.

After all, if we're going to revolutionise dog treats with radical transparency, we might as well revolutionise shipping honesty too!

What's your return policy?

We offer our Happy Tail Guarantee, if your dog doesn't absolutely love Raffi cookies, we'll provide a full refund. We stand behind our product because we believe in the quality and taste. Check out the Happy Tail Guarantee for full details.

How did you develop the recipes?

We spent months (and months and months and months!) perfecting our recipes, focusing on ingredients that provide nutritional benefits while tasting amazing. Each ingredient was chosen for a specific reason, like peanut butter for protein, pumpkin for fiber and vitamins, coconut oil for healthy fats. We tested extensively with dogs of all sizes and ages.

Why are Raffi cookies meat free?

We chose to make Raffi cookies completely meat free for several important reasons. First, it eliminates the strong, lingering odors that meat based treats are notorious for.  You know, that smell that makes you cringe when you open a bag of traditional dog treats! This was crucial for our café focused vision where discretion matters.

But there's so much more to it. Plant based ingredients like peanut butter, pumpkin, and peas provide excellent nutrition. They're also naturally easier on sensitive stomachs and perfect for dogs with meat allergies or intolerances.

From a practical standpoint, Raffi treats smell great and they can be stored safely without refrigeration. Plus, every ingredient we use serves a nutritional purpose, from the protein in our peanuts to the fiber in our pumpkin, creating treats that are both delicious and genuinely beneficial.

Most importantly, dogs absolutely love the taste! Our harshest 4 legged critics and taste testers prove that you don't need meat to make tails wag.
